ICONIC CAFES IN PARIS

ICONIC CAFES IN PARIS
On a gorgeous summer afternoon, there is nowhere more enjoyable to spend an hour or two than the bustling terrace at the Les Deux Magots, one of the iconic cafes in Paris. Enjoy a coffee, a small bite and watch the Parisians go by under their iconic green awnings. Les Deux Magots café is in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area of Paris. Once the favored rendezvous spot of intellectuals Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, young writers, artists, and chefs such as Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce,vPablo Picasso, Julia Child and Bertolt Brecht. Their slightly more "in" neighbor, the Café de Flore is one of the oldest coffeehouses in Paris.vOn the corner of Boulevard Saint-Germain and Rue Saint-Benoît. The classic Art Deco interior with the red seating, mahogany woods and mirrors has changed little since World War II. Also frequented by artists, writers and intellectuals, it is somewhat more popular. But either one always has a full terrace in summer months. Both are a beautiful bit of Parisian history and culture. If you are in Paris, sitting on one of the outdoor terraces is pure joy!

Anita, what a wonderful trip that must have been! I agree, the inside is worth a peek too. Thanks so much for the tip!

We were just there last month, introducing our 14-year-old granddaughter to Paris. If you visit Les Deux Magots, be sure to step into the main dining room to see the two huge Chinese “figurines” for which the cafe is named. I love this place. These two cafes are just about a block apart and very easy to find. Les Deux Magots is across the street from the oldest church in Paris—L’egise de Saint Germain des Pres.

I agree, nothing is wonderful in the heat Europe is experiencing right now. The humidity is unbearable! Thankfully, that type of weather is few and far in-between, there are plenty of months when shopping or sight seeing in Paris is a pure joy!

Joan, the closet metro and bus stop is Saint-Germain-Des-Prés. That’s the area these are both in. A great area to wander into for a while. Thank you so much for loving my posts! xo

I bet at a 100 degrees it wasn’t as pleasant as it usually is. I believe Al Roker stated today it was to be 107 degrees in Paris. While I love Paris I don’t love it THAT much to try and be a tourist and shop in that type of heat. NO antique is worth a heat stroke.
