Thereās something about October that feels like a soft exhale. October arrives with a whisper ā cooler mornings, rustling leaves, and that golden hush that settles over the world just before the trees let go of their color. Nothing is as beautiful as the warm, rich colors of autumn, not just outside in the garden, but on our tables inside, too! I'm sharing Monday Morning Blooms | October's Elegance with French & English Antiques, an easy table filled with all the colors of fall.
Ā

Mary, Pam and I are beyond excited that it's autumn, and that our dear friend Sarah of Hyacinths For The Soul is joining us. I'll share their links at the bottom of this post so you can visit them and drink in every ounce of their inspiring autumnal beauty!Ā

This Monday Morning Blooms is a love letter to Octoberās hush āĀ celebrating the season with a pairing as timeless as autumn itself: the graceful romance of French and English antiques, and the fleeting beauty of seasonal blooms.Ā

I set our center island in the kitchen with French and English antiques for a really fun monthly gathering...our bookclub is made up of 8 friends, each of us is as different as can be, but what binds us together is the love of reading, and after a few meetings, of each other!

Meals are casual, often it's a combined effort. The perfect menu for October is a beautiful charcuterie board and drinks, followed by a hearty soup, a salad, and bread. {And of course, a dessert!}
This floral arrangement brings together the warmth of the harvest with the character of antique treasures.Ā

The colors of the flowers lean into the richness of the season.

At the heart of today's floral arrangement is an antique drabware tea pot, stained just slightly with age - making it all the more perfect. Its neutral color contrast beautifully with the bright jewel toned flowers.

This table setting is a tale of two traditions: French and English. Autumn is an ideal season to showcase French and English antiques in your homeāthey'll add character and so much warmth.

The table cloth is an antique French striped mattress cover, the napkins are my favorite linen napkins in fall color.

Antique English brown transfer plates are topped with antique French deep plates in red.Ā

Bakelite flatware is a fantastic color match to this table setting, isn't it? Before serving dinner, they fit nicely in an antique French urn.

Vintage and antique crystal decanters serve drinks, antique and art deco glasses add an extra layer of history.

Antique and vintage glassware is really difficult to find in sets, the workmanship on these etched iced tea glasses is just stunning.Ā

This antique ladies country work box wood holds antique dessert plates, more napkins, and some velvet pumpkins.

The charm of French and English antiques lies not only in their age, but in the stories they hold, in every scuff, worn edge, and crackle in the glaze.Ā

One of my very favorite finds this season for the shop is this sterling meat fork. I've never seen one with a deer on it!

October teaches us to find beauty in what fades. In leaves that curl, in petals that droop, in antiques that carry time on their surface. Not perfection ājust a lovely presence.

I hope you notice the beauty of autumn, even in the quiet moments. Light your candles at dusk. Arrange a few flowers, or even a branch or two, in a vase. Allow yourself to linger with a cup of coffee or tea for a while.

Lidy, Your curated treasures are beautiful, especially your drabware teapot as a vessel for your floral arrangement! What a handsome find your sterling meat fork is and I have long admired bakelite flatware for the color. Your comments move me to look out the window and appreciate the leaves and pine needles that have fallen and cause me to work a lot to get them up. Beautiful however laying Golden on The green lawn. Look up tonight, the harvest moon is beautiful.

Lidy, I always feel as if Iām on a mini vacation to my beloved France when I visit one of your posts. This one certainly does just that. I adore every detail! I share your fondness for all things French and that little urn of Bakelite flatware is proof perfect! Iāve long picked up odd flatware pieces because of those wonderul Bakelite handles in autumn hues. The pair of pups are calling my name as well. I always want to shop your posts. In addition to the fabulous images, your words fill my heart with joy as well. Thank you, dear friend. This is a wonderful way to begin this first Monday in October. Today is also my momās birthday. She was a master gardener! Thanks for the honor of joining in today. Iām always excited to be part of Monday Morning Blooms.

I accidentally published before finishing my last comment. I loved your words of how October (and antiques) teach us of the beauty in what fades (and what is scuffed and worn). Beautiful!

Oh my word, Lidy! That fall floral arrangement in the drabware teapot is breathtaking. The drama those hypernicum berries deliver is truly dramatic against the faded hydrangea blooms and the bright mums. If anyone could find a beautiful set of antique stemware it would be you! The transferware, the bakelite ā it is all so authentically rich. And that meat fork ā stunning!
Your opening and closing words reflecting on the season are truly meaningful. I especially love the comment of how October (and antiques) teaches us
