HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CASHMERE

After searching for the perfect soft and luxurious cashmere wraps,

I'm over-the-moon thrilled about the cashmere shawls I found

for all of us for the Spring Collection!

Cashmere is so heavenly soft, and it feels like an embrace.

These might be my very favorite new piece

in my spring wardrobe.

I choose classic, timeless colors for this season.

Cream, a soft Parisian Pink Rose, softest Sky Blue, French Country Blue, and Black.

There is also a slightly lighter weight Caramel color.

The ultimate luxury, so soft and so light.

I wear this around my shoulders as a wrap over a crisp blouse and jeans,

over a sleeveless dress in the evening in spring and summer.

When I travel to Europe on our buying trips, I tuck one of these in my bag,

it’s the most comfortable blanket covering in the plane.

Like wool, cashmere is a natural, breathable fiber that wicks moisture,

so you can wear it as many as 50 times without washing.

Washing it too often could contribute to excessive pilling.

You would think the most luxurious cashmere would require special care, but it's far from the truth.

Cashmere is so easy to care for.

Because it's a delicate yarn, cashmere items are labeled “Dry Clean Only.”

Cashmere comes from goats, and goats' fur is like human hair and gets fluffier and more lustrous after it's washed.

Dry cleaning will actually break down the fibers and damage your cashmere over time.

{Ignore what the label says.}

Just a few easy tips and you can prolong the life of your cashmere for years.

Here’s how to keep your cashmere looking and feeling beautiful.

1.HAND WASH. Hand-wash in cold - never hot - water without detergent {yes, just water!} or choose a special mild cashmere shampoo {in a pinch, a tiny bit of mild baby shampoo works} air dry flat, away from heat and direct sunlight. Avoid any friction; wringing, rubbing, and drying with other garments will lead to pilling. 2. LAY FLAT. Cashmere is at its most delicate when the fibers are wet, so this is the stage that requires the most care. Gently press the excess water out of your garment, place it on a dry towel and carefully roll it up. After the towel has absorbed as much of the water as possible, lay it on another clean and dry towel in shape. 3. BE PATIENT. Wet cashmere can take days to dry, so this stage requires patience. If you are in a hurry, you can put your cashmere in the dryer for 5 minutes on very very low air setting only! -to speed up the drying process. But heat makes cashmere shrink, so only do this if it's an emergency and you stay by the dryer. : ) After, lay it on a clean dry towel to complete the drying process. 4. STORE WITH CARE. Fold and store your cashmere on a shelf or in a drawer; hanging may cause stretching. It's recommended that you air out your cashmere for a while after wearing.

With these tips you will be able to enjoy your luxurious cashmere wraps

{and other garments} for a long long time!

PS. Pilling is normal for any natural fiber.

Since cashmere fibers are very light and delicate, it will inevitably pill in areas predisposed to friction.

You can remove pills with a sweater stone, or a special

fuzz shaver, glide it over the wraps carefully!

Oh my! Enduring Southern Homes looks fabulous! I grew up in New York City, and then spent 40 years living in beautiful Colorado. Now I’m in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and getting to know southern ways. I would love to own this book. I always enjoy your posts Lidy. Just beautiful!
