February at FrenchGardenHouse always arrives softly. Not with grand gestures, but with pale light through the windows, quieter mornings, and the first hint that winter is beginning to loosen its grip. For this month's Monday Morning Blooms, I'm focussing on Small Acts of Beauty.
I am joining my dear friends Mary and Pam for some floral therapy today. I hope you will visit them, I'll share their links at the end of this post.

For this month's Monday Morning Blooms, I leaned into that gentleness that February brings — choosing a floral palette that feels fresh, hopeful, and quietly beautiful.
It would be impossible not to acknowledge that our world feels heavy right now, uncertain, and often overwhelming in ways both large and small.

This is exactly why moments of care matter. Taking time to tend to yourself, to set a table, to bring flowers indoors, or to invite a neighbor or friend to lunch isn’t frivolous — it’s grounding.
These small acts of beauty and connection are how we steady ourselves and extend kindness outward, creating pockets of warmth in our daily lives.

In my little sitting room off the master bedroom, I set my wicker trunk for two. It's a perfect spot to enjoy the winter garden, the birds that are still singing every day, and you can hear them through the French doors that connects to the back patio. It's a wonderful place to share some time with a friend.

For the flowers, white and blush pink tulips take center stage, their simple silhouettes unfurling with effortless grace. They’re joined by delicate alstroemeria, adding subtle movement and a touch of romance, while seeded eucalyptus is always a favorite to add to every arrangement with its muted green tones and natural texture.

For some reason my white wax flowers drooped instantly {!} so I took them out for the other photos, and used seeded eucalyptus from last weeks flowers instead.

The flowers are intentionally unfussy — arranged as though gathered from the garden and set down without overthinking. This is beauty meant to feel lived-in.

They are wonderful placed on this Staffordshire Ironstone Antique Platter because although charming, the antique French wicker trunk is a little uneven on the top.

Bonus is that there is enough room to add petite desserts, eclairs and heart shaped macarons, for a sweet after a light luncheon salad.

For the setting, I used these gorgeous antique plates with hand enameling and hand painted designs.

The embroidered linen napkins are still available in this stunning green color here, but this is our last set. Antique mother of pearl silver and gilt embellished goblets complete this sweet February setting.

A simple salad, a treat, iced tea or a glass of white wine, and good conversation is the kind of gathering that doesn’t need an occasion beyond being together.
It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t have to wait for spring — sometimes it’s already right on your table.

This salad is so easy to make. It's fresh, bright, and unfussy. My Mom used to love it, and I usually just used our own oranges from the back garden tree.
Perfect for a small impromptu luncheon with friends, where antique plates are mixed and matched, flowers spill gently across the table, and the meal lingers longer than planned. {with a cup of Earl Grey tea, if at all possible.}

Serves 4–6
2 heads butter lettuce, gently washed and torn
1 small fennel bulb, very thinly sliced
2 blood oranges or Cara Cara oranges, peeled and sliced {or regular good oranges}
1 small apple (Pink Lady or Honeycrisp), thinly sliced
¼ cup shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano
¼ cup toasted sliced almonds or pine nuts
Freshly cracked black pepper
2 tablespoons Champagne vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey
⅓ cup extra-virgin olive oil
Sea salt, to taste
Whisk together the Champagne vinegar, Dijon, honey, and sea salt.
Slowly drizzle in the olive oil, whisking until emulsified.
Taste and adjust seasoning.
Arrange the butter lettuce on a serving platter.
Layer with fennel, citrus slices, and apple.
Drizzle lightly with vinaigrette, then finish with shaved Parmigiano, toasted nuts, and a few turns of black pepper.
Serve immediately.

Lidy, your quiet spot for tea is perfect. Especially now, I enjoy setting a special tea tray with a pot of hot tea and a small sweet treat. It feels luxurious! The flowers and sweet treats are sheer delight, but it’s that salad that has me making a list of ingredients to pick up tomorrow. It looks delicious! Thank you for the recipe!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Why have I never thought to turn my trunk into a table for two? Genius! Your flowers are so lovely. I grow Alstromeria in pots on the deck during the summer and bring them in during the winter. I get fresh blooms all winter long.

Love the tulips and sweets and all. All the pics made me feel so much better in this dreary winter weather.

Lidy, I can imagine sitting there with your patio right outside your door, and seeing your garden with fruit trees and hearing the birds. That’s such a wonderful vision, especially right now. Your flowers are so pretty, so soft and calming in their colors and relaxed way they drape. I would enjoy sharing friendship beside you there and, if my memory serves me correctly, we could also celebrate your birthday! Thank you for always sharing your beautiful antiques in your posts.

Good morning Mary,
Always such a treat to join hands across the miles and celebrate Monday Morning Blooms with you, friend. I hope you are keeping warm, I’m almost embarrassed to mention that it was 80 here yesterday. Our garden is beyond confused! It went from our usual 50-60 to 80’s, it’s suddenly like summer, which is not good in February.
I think in a week it should be back to regularly scheduled February weather, hoping. Wishing you a blessed month ahead, filled with sunshine and birdsong.

Alice,
So delighted to have you join me this morning! I love tulips too, even though they do have a mind of their own once in a vase, some grow and grow in a vase! But they are so lovely, aren’t they? When we lived in Holland we lived across the street from a bulb grower, and every spring it was such a beautiful view.
I’m so sorry about the allergic reaction, I am now allergic to wheat and dairy products. It’s so interesting that allergies can “suddenly” appear. Not fun, though, I’m sorry you no longer can enjoy a salad.
Wishing you a beautiful February and a very blessed week ahead.

Lidy what a lovely refreshing and cozy Valentine’s Day table/trunk for two. I adore the softness of your pink and white tulips and how strange the white ones drooped so quickly. Great thinking to add to the pink as the effect is still the same. Your citrus salad is making my mouth water and I will be making it very soon, thanks for the recipe. the Staffordshire Ironstone Antique Platter is beautiful as are the sweet treats on the side. Everything on your antique wicker trunk is special…the embroidered linen napkins and antique plates and Antique mother of pearl silver and gilt embellished goblets are so inviting making me think of an earlier time and place. Thank you for inviting me virtually to sit in your home. Hugs

Yours are the first tulips I’ve seen this year. They are a favorite of mine. Your salad looks so fresh and enticing however lettuces are no longer on my diet anymore. After many trials and errors I ended at my dermatologist to learn I’m
allergic to ALL lettuces. I love the mother of pearl at your setting. Hope your love is by your side this Valentine Day.

Good morning, Lidy. Your lovely setting for two on the wicker trunk is perfect for sharing Valentine’s Day with a friend. Tulips make me smile as they dance in a vase and require little arranging. The Staffordshire antique platter is charming. The antique plates with hand enameling and hand painted designs are beautiful. The antique mother of pearl silver is exquisite. The salad looks fresh and delicious. How wonderful to pick an orange from your back garden!
It is always a treat to join you for Monday Morning Blooms! Happy February❤️February 02, 2026
Good morning Lidy, Such a cozy spot to celebrate winter with your flowers and enjoy the quiet beauty this month. We’re crazy cold right now so the thought of enjoying some birdsong with the beginning signs of spring outside the door sounds wonderful. Your salad looks so refreshing and like a wonderful way to wake up your palate with your fresh winter citrus. As always, it’s a treat to share blooms with you on these Mondays. Happy February ❤️
