Celebrate Spring with a Colorful Flowering Table

The older I get, the more I believe that we have to be deliberate about making time in our busy schedules to celebrate every one of life’s moments and the people we love. The changing of the seasons is just one of the many reasons to celebrate and connect with people you love over a meal in your home.

For this table, I began with the flowers. Because spring is all about flowers, isn’t it? I choose one of my favorite glass vases. To keep the water very clear, I add a flower conditioning packet {usually comes with the flowers} and a teeny tiny drop of bleach.

A trip to my favorite flower market was so successful! I was thrilled to find my old stand-by white alstroemeria, and quickly filled my little shopping basket with Shocking Blue hydrangeas, and the prettiest Majolika spray roses. Their name is derived from latin, meaning 'flowering in abundance' or 'many flowering'. Aren’t they so pretty? Seeded eucalyptus added a sweet note of green.

I started with the alstroemeria, because they are the ‘back bone’ of any arrangement. Next, it tucked in the three blue hydrangeas, nestling them in the vase. The little Majolika spray roses came next, and finally I added the eucalyptus. This is different from how I usually arrange flowers, it’s more common to begin with the ‘filler’ first, but this worked better this time for me.

To help extend the life of your flowers in your arrangement:

*Be sure to remove the leaves that will be under water, and cut your flowers at a 45 degree angle for maximum water uptake.

*Always add a tiny drop of bleach and floral preservative to the water first, it will fight bacteria growth in your vase, and the flowers will stay fresh and hydrated. If you don’t have floral preservative, my grandmother always added some regular lemon lime soda in the water along with the drop of bleach.

*Make sure you check the water in your vase, especially the first few days, because flowers drink more than you think!

This delightful table setting fresh and light, and bursting with charm. It has enough layers to make it intriguing. You’ll want to study it for just a minute so you don’t miss one little tidbit. Blue, white and pink, when they are brought together, just sing at spring.

The blue linen tablecloth is a favorite base for many spring tables. That it has a romantic ruffle at the bottom only adds to how much I love it.

You can’t go wrong with blue and white on your table, especially in spring. {really, especially anytime!}

The flow blue plates are the perfect layer underneath this vintage Copeland Spode flowering tea set. This pattern is fresh, fun, and infused with the excitement and energy of spring.

Antique silver forks, a very rare silver salad server from the 1850's {to be used to serve pastries, this time!} and an antique silver teapot gleam on the table. Our favorite linen napkins with royal bees buzzed on the tabletop to join the outdoor fun.

The cheerful flowers on the antique Copeland Spode tea service mimic the colors of the flowers.

The Parian Bisque Porcelain Cherub is a sweet touch, isn't he? Did you know that figures like this adorned dinner tables when dessert was served? They were meant to express the personality of the host, and to be wonderful conversation starters.

Before you leave, let's take a peek at the back garden at FrenchGardenHouse. Things are just leafing out, the 'tree' behind the pink foxgloves is a pink Rose of Sharon, which is really supposed to be a bush. It's my pet peeve with my head gardener, Mr. FGH is not a fan of pruning over much. {I am!}

The area around the fountain is coming to life again. The jasmine is starting to grow against the fence again, and I'm planting some pink hydrangeas in this little plot.
