Early Ironstone Meat Tenderizer Mallet, with a honey colored hand turned wood handle. The heavy ironstone portion has a quilted look grid pattern that is in excellent condition. Mallets like this were used by cook to tenderize meats, and to flatten out meat for special dinners for when guests arrived to dine.
The mallet is an outstanding example of utilitarian ironstone for la cuisine. There are a few chips in the top as shown, this is considered in good antique condition for earthenware pieces that were used for generations.
