Exceptional Antique Fratelli Coppini Solid Silver Sweet Meat Fork with a cherub on the handle, from the late 19th or early 20th century. Fratelli Coppini was founded in Florence in 1740 as a goldsmith and silversmith workshop, and is still in business today, specializing in high end jewelry. This fork is a true testimony to their fine craftsmanship and mastery at intricate details, 800 was the continental silver standard at the time this was created. A sweat meat fork is meant to serve sticky little confection not made with chocolate- such as candied fruit, sugar-covered nuts, sugarplums, bonbons etc.
The handle is embellished both on the front and back. The front is graced with a cherub at the top, a shield monogrammed with an H, and stunning foliate detailing to the fork portion, which is engraved with ocean waves and a baroque dolphin. The back is just as gorgeous, it features a della-robbia urn with fruit and a flowing ribbon, and ends in shell. Rare to find and quite magnificent...this beauty can certainly be the star of your holiday appetizer platters too. Marked Frt. Coppini, 800, Made in Italy.
