A rare and charming antique Battenberg lace table ensemble for eight, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century. Each piece features intricate Battenberg tape lace, with narrow linen tapes arranged into graceful loops and floral motifs and joined together with delicate hand-worked brides. The lace beautifully frames the soft petal pink linen centers, creating an elegant and romantic table setting.
Complete antique Battenberg table ensembles with their original napkins and runner are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in such a lovely color combination. The linens remain in good antique condition. I note a few broken brides in the lace and a few small spots consistent with age. One napkin shows some darker toning (see photo). Some placemats are slightly lighter than others, most likely from being used more frequently over the years. A beautiful antique linen set ready to set your prettiest table.
The lace loops and floral motifs fully frame the petal-pink linen centers, giving an elegant, ready-to-display tabletop look that decorators and collectors adore.
Battenberg lace was extremely coveted in the late 19th century and remained widely used through the early 20th century. The lace is formed by arranging narrow linen tapes into decorative patterns that are then joined together with hand-worked brides.
Table linens were often produced as complete coordinated sets, because these linens were frequently used and laundered, complete ensembles with their original matching components are becoming rare to find today.
