Rare Antique French Francois Gaultier Bisque Doll Riding on Camel Pull Toy

Exceptional, Rare Antique French Francois Gaultier Doll Riding on Camel Pull Toy, beyond magical! This French Bisque Pull Toy is a Polichinelle on a Camel. Once a child’s toy that was loved and given with great affection, with blue glass eyes, painted features, closed mouth, and a blond mohair wig. A sweet little face, this darling is wearing a blue & white cotton costume trimmed in decorative silver beading and bullion ribbon. A pert tall hat trimmed in French silver bullion ribbon. He wears black painted on boots, I have not undressed him but he has a composite body. Fabulous addition to your collection of French antique dolls, to display for the holidays with your bears, children’s books and toys.

The doll is posed on the camel as the rider, he holds the silver reigns around his little wrists. This is not an automaton, the doll does not move when the camel is pulled. The classic pull toy camel has metal wheels that have bent a little over the last century. The camel is most likely by Steiff, it does have a tiny hole in one ear where the button or tag should be, but it is no longer there, so not 100 % sure. Good antique condition, please only adopt him if you can love his patina of over 100 years, I bought him in Europe from a collector, his clothing has aged. Marked F.G. in scroll for Gaultier on the back of the little head.

  • Measures approximately 13″h  x 11″ x 5″.
