Gorgeous Large Antique 1850’s Blue & White Meat Platter , in the most beautiful lighter color of blue. A stunner, this platter was made by Robert Cochran & Co, Verreville Pottery, Glasgow, Scotland. The pottery began making pieces in 1846, this shows to be dated in 1850-1851 by the mark on the back.  The transfer printed design is just spectacular, a central scene surrounded by floral borders with little inset cameos of grand buildings.

In the center, a country scene of figures working by the riverside, in the background are many elaborate castles, and boats. Transfer printed platters like this make a statement on a French Country buffet, on your mantel, or hung on a wall with appropriate pottery hangers. I often use them, not just to serve food, of course, but as a base for a beautiful centerpiece too. There is a very small under rim chip that has been there for almost the life of the platter, it looks like. A beautiful work of history to add to your collection of 19th Century Pottery.
