Exceptionally rare large Mixed Metals Sterling Silver Victorian Locket, hallmarked by Birmingham silversmith J & F.S. A fabulous and gorgeous aesthetic floral design covers the front of this beautiful locket, showcasing the work of this highly accomplished silver smith. The rose on the front center has a dimensional quality, as do the leaves. Flowers are laid over in rose gold, the leaves in yellow gold. Just stunning!
The rose symbolizes love and married love from the language of flowers so beloved by Victorians, this was most likely a gift for a bride from her groom, or a wife very much loved. Opens to hold two photographs, the rounded back side retains the original silver oval frame, no glass, there are two circular areas as shown on the back. Hangs from a sterling fluted bail. A sterling investment piece for your jewelry collection. Fully hallmarked for sterling, Birmingham and the date letter for the 1880’s. Comes with our (new) sterling plated chain.
