Beautiful Antique Sterling Silver Minaudiére or Portable Nécessaire with a stunning engraved monogram on the front of R M J. A minaudiére is an early 20th century small fashion accessory carried in the manner of a small handbag. The rectangular cushion shape had beveled corners and the original hand chain attached. It was meant to be carried on a lady’s wrist, or could be slipped into a larger reticule or bag.
This stunning beauty opens to reveal coin slots, a mirror compact that opens for powder, and the other side for calling cards or perhaps paper money. {If she was really naughty it could hold cigarettes.} The gilt parts are stunning, the spots in the photos are reflections.
