Lovely and very decorative Sterling Silver Five O’clock Tea Spoon in a beautiful pattern by Whiting in the Louis XV pattern. Dates to the very early 1900’s, the delicate French scroll work decorates the handle. Reserved for an afternoon formal coffee or tea – hence it’s called ‘five o’clock’. This, and several other spoons come from the estate of Blanche’s family. When Blanche married in the late 1800’s, she did not have a dowry or trousseau. As soon as her husband and her could afford it, she would receive a sterling tea spoon every Christmas engraved with her name on the front and the date on the back.
The back of the handle of this spoon is marked with the Whiting Silver Hallmark, Sterling, and the year ’07. A beautiful addition to your collection of Victorian and Art Nouveau sterling. And a testimony to the truth that it is never to late to slowly surround yourself with beautiful things! : )
- Measures 5-3/4″ long.
