So meaningful, this museum quality Christ Child is heart capturing. Made of the old gesso and wood in the late 1700’s, early 1800’s, beautifully hand painted with great detail. This will truly touch your soul, a sweet rendition of the Christ Child and Lamb. Jesus is “the Lamb of God”, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” Truly an exceptional find, this piece has been in a private collection.
The Christ Child is wearing a lavender silk gown touched with lace and gold bullion lace trim, he carries his lamb on his back. Two smaller sheep are included. His face has luminous hand painted layers of polychrome “encarnación” or flesh-like finish collectors so admire. There is wear to the paint, and patina that you want to see on an older piece like this, the silk gown is faded on the front. The lamb has most likely fallen off several times, he is missing a leg on the underside. An enchanting addition to your collection of antique santos and religious antiques.
