Antique French Napoleon III Ebonized Wood Crucifix with a silvered Christ, dates to the reign of Napoleon III. This home altar cross has a hand carved circular base, a silvered skull is shown below the corpus, referring to Golgotha {Calvary}, the site at which Jesus was crucified, the place of the skull. Each part of the cross ends with the traditional celluloid disc and bead ornamentation, the top disc has the back part missing.
This is a stunning addition to your collection of antique French religious artifacts and relics. Bought in Normandy, used in a French home for devotion, this is a wonderful table top size. Beloved, cherished and most likely the center of a family’s home for generations, in good antique condition.
