Beautiful Antique French Madonna, Large Chalkware Virgin Mary Statue, made in France in the late 1800’s early 1900’s. Made of heavy, creamy chalk-ware, which is like plaster only of a better and finer heavier quality. Unpainted, she stands on top of a pedestal, crushing the serpent’s head with her foot, as she battles evil. She has lots of age, and patina, as you can see. This beautiful Virgin Mary has some loss to her nose and draped head covering as you can see.
We have chosen not to repair this, as we love that this shows her history and tells a bit of her story. She has been loved and well taken care of, except for that time that little Jeanne wanted to whisper something to her and accidentally knocked her over in the living room, taking a bit of her now with her. Please only adopt her if you love her just this way. She has handpainted gilt details and is stamped France on the back.
