Collectible 1st Edition Victorian Children’s Book, published by Syndicate Trading Co. of New York, entitled Baby’s Own Book. From the “Golden Age” of children’s illustrated books, this has beautiful period monotone illustrations on each page. The cover is delightful, books like this were more often than not a birthday or Christmas gift for a sweet little one. This cover shows darling little girls and boys sliding down a hill with flowers and love letters in spring on the front, and sliding down a snow covered hill towards a snowman on the back.
Inside, it shows that Georgie Porter received this for Christmas 1889. The pages are in very, very good condition, without the tears and smudges so often found on books of this age. Illustrations are so charming, children wearing all the lace and frills of Victorian fashion. Stories include: The Bad Little Ant, Four Babies {babies of the West, North, East and South!}, Jack & Jill, The Jolly Little Sailor, The Greedy Little Mouse, The Hard Hearted Doll, and many more delights. Many of the stories are about animals, birds, dogs, and more.
The cover is somewhat edge-worn on the corners, binding is extremely tight…I am delighted this is in such good condition for a children’s book over 125 years old. A fantastic addition to your collection.
