Exceptional 19th Century American Hand Woven Buttocks Splint Basket, finely woven. The rim is double wrapped, the arched handle is sturdy and beautifully designed. The handle wraps around the basket form for extra stability. Baskets like this were used to carry eggs from the hen house long ago, now, they are just decorative treasures!
This basket is a delight to display, or to use. Please note a few areas of minor loss, as shown. Original natural surface with outstanding rich patina, I love this basket – it will be a joy to display with your country basket collection.
