Early Antique Spode Blue and White Coffee Cup and Saucers Set, in the beloved classic Italian design. Launched in 1816, the pattern has been a favorite of collectors ever since. This design features a finely detailed 18th century Imari Oriental border surrounding a scene inspired by the Italian countryside. This set of two is a rare treat. They are not quite identical, but were together for a long time, perhaps gifts for a birthday or the holidays.
The early pieces are always special, but one of these cups has a repair, so well done, which makes it even more so. Obviously done with great care, for a family that cherished the heirloom set. {SO valued is a “make-do” in England that I had to pay much more for the fixed cup!} This cup also has a hairline that has been there for almost a century.
