19th Century Metal & Oak Mezzaluna Herb Chopper, used for over a century in a Provencal cuisine. Named because of the ‘half moon’ shape of the blade, this is a single blade Mezzaluna. It would have most likely been used to cut herbs and garlic either on a large wooden board, or inside a hand made wooden bowl.
This simple knife is designed to easily rock back and forth on a cutting board, it has a turned oak handle on each side with red painted stripe detailing. There is wear, aging, and everything you want to see in a culinary antique like this from the late 1800’s. We have oiled the handles, cleaned the steel and sharpened the edge. This is sharp! Use or display with a collection – a beauty!
