$130.00

Availability: 1 in stock

Delightful Antique Choisy Le Roi Faience Earthenware Story Plates, in a set of three, depicting military scenes from the series A Madagascar. With crisp black & white transfer printed illustrations, surrounded by a blue border. Story plates, or “Assiettes Parlantes” {talking plates} were quite popular and produced by many fine faience houses in the mid to late 1800’s.

These illustrate the two military campaigns in the Franco Hova Wars, or Franco Malagasy Wars, between 1883-1896 that resulted in Madagascar becoming a French Colony. Considered “fine” plates, which refers to the ability of the transfer process to replicate rather finely drawn images, each one portrays soldiers, officers, or sailors in period uniforms, weapons, a boat, and other military equipment, as well as the exotic location of Madagascar. Decorative addition to your collection of militaria, perfect to display on a wall in a gentleman’s office or library.
