Grand Antique Scottish Silver Plated Meat Food Domed Cover with Heraldic Crest of Arbuthnot Family

A magnificent Grand Antique Scottish Silver Plated Meat Dome, beautifully domed and impressively scaled, featuring the crisp, finely executed heraldic crest of the Arbuthnot family. Crafted in the 19th century, this substantial serving piece displays elegant proportions, a bold gadrooned edge, and engraving of exceptional sharpness and detail. Originally created for an important Scottish estate, this dome would have presided over formal dinners and grand occasions. Featuring the peacock's head and motto 'Innocent and True' motto of the Arbuthnot clan, the Arbuthnot lands have been in the hands of the same noble family for more than twenty-four generations including the present Viscount. It retains its remarkable visual presence, though it shows a few dents on the dome, consistent with age and use, as shown. These do not detract from its authenticity or decorative impact, and the piece remains a striking example of aristocratic silver plate. A dramatic addition to your dining room sideboard, or a statement element in curated entertaining. Marked inside for the silver of Arbroath, Scotland with a crosshatched mark, and the letter L. The sweeping lines of the dome culminate in an ornate handle, adding a touch of regal flair. Try as I might, I've not been able to track down a maker's mark, it was no doubt custom made for the family. A lovely piece, not perfect, but rich in history of the Scottish Isles. Please only adopt this dome if you can live with the patina and several dents as shown.
