A rare early 18th century Italian polychrome carved wood Christ Child, beautifully sculpted with remarkable artistry and devotion. This free-standing devotional figure is extremely rare to find and captures the gentle beauty and serene presence of the infant Christ, a wonderful example of Italian religious craftsmanship.

The beautifully carved flowing hair, sweet expression, delicate hands, and graceful proportions reveal the skill of the artist who created him. His raised right hand forms the ancient orator’s gesture of blessing and perfection, a symbolic gesture with roots reaching back to the classical world. Retaining his original arms and most of his fingers, he remains in very good antique condition for his age.

The small openings at the back of his head indicate that he would most likely have worn a decorative crown or headpiece, traditionally made from precious materials and often preserved separately over time. A remarkable survivor from 18th century Italy, this Christ Child brings history, beauty, and a sense of quiet reverence to your home.
