Antique Staffordshire John the Baptist and Lamb of God Figure

Antique Staffordshire John the Baptist and Lamb of God Figure, made by Thomas Parr in the mid 1800's. It shows the exceptional artistic skills of the artist. This figure is handcrafted with exquisite attention to detail, made of the world renowned Staffordshire clay, hand modeled and hand painted in a beautiful multi-colored palette. This figure is painted 'in the round' vs. so many that were painted on the front side only.

Masterfully painted, especially the faces are so well done for this period of Staffordshire pieces. The bocage is in wonderful condition, and the sheep is adorable. Not perfect, there is a production firing line on one ankle, which was repaired and  glazed over. The sheep's front right leg has had a professional repair. A stunning addition to your Staffordshire collection, with its elegant style and profound religious significance. Seen in the book 'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 30, figure 1726
