Large Antique Staffordshire Blue & White Divided Transfer Plate, made by W.R. Midwinter of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. William Robinson Midwinter began his pottery company in the early 1900's, the pottery made gorgeous transfer printed pieces and was renowned for their skill and artistry. The design for this round plate has a 'fool the eye' oval center scene, carefully transferred onto the creamy white earthenware.
The intricate romantic landscape scene invites closer inspection, revealing details that speak to the artistry of the time. A charming countryside has a village, rivers, gardens, bridges and lots of flowers and trees. The divided sections add practicality to the plate's antique allure, perfect for presenting small delicacies or a selection of cheeses. In good antique condition, there are a few small rough spots to the rim glaze as shown. Marked on the bottom.
