Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Fish Plates Set of 9

Beautifully preserved early set of 9 Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Fish Plates, imported by Bawo & Dotter in the 1800's. Each plate features exquisitely detailed depictions of freshwater fish in serene natural settings, painted with a delicate touch and vibrant, lifelike color, with hand enameled white details. The fish scenes are enhanced by soft flowing underwater flora, showcasing exceptional artistic skill. Each plate has traces of 24kt gold rims, which lent a refined elegance to the set, because this set was loved and used by the family, the gilt edges are mostly hinted at.

These plates were part of Bawo & Dotter’s high-quality European porcelain offerings imported to the U.S. under the Carlsbad China name. Of note, one plate has a small hairline, another has the tiniest nibble on the under rim, which I couldn't even photograph it is so small. Antiques....they're usually not perfect, but they show the story of how they were loved. Whether displayed as wall art or used for special dining occasions, this set is a remarkable example of 19th century European craftsmanship and artistry.
