A charming and evocative example of turn-of-the-century French leisure culture, this Antique French Loto Game Cards in Shabby Box or Jeu de Loto set offers both historical appeal and decorative character. This is one of those very shabby things I fall in love with, which perplexes Mr. FGH. Housed in the original paper-covered wood box, now beautifully worn with time, the set includes 30 numbered game cards, each printed on cardboard.

The box, in a soft, faded red leatherette has distressed edges and visible wear, the top has scenes from people around the world. It speaks to years of children's use and storied provenance. The top just sits on top of the bottom, loose. The cards show varying degrees of age-related patina — foxing, worn corners, and subtle discoloration — all of which contribute to the set’s undeniable authenticity and aesthetic charm.
