Rare t0 find Antique French Blue Floral Deep Plates, a Set of 5, earthenware plates in the Cérès pattern, from the Sarreguemines faiencerie, date marked 1870-1880. The pottery at Sarreguemines was established in 1784, and had great success during the Empire period, Napoleon ordered whole sets of dinnerware and bestowed an honor to the company. Renowned for their fine quality craftsmanship and beautiful intricate designs, this pottery played a significant role in French ceramic artistry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The beautiful floral pattern takes its name from Cérès the goddess of wheat and harvests in Roman Mythology. The elegant blue on white design features floral bouquets on top of a classical border on the inner rim, and a floral sprig and leaf border on the scalloped edges. The bouquet is repeated in the center of the plate. Perfect for a wonderful salad topped with filet mignon, or a bowl of your famous penne. A fantastic find, each is in good antique condition. These look exquisite layered on top of other antique dishes. Marked by the factory on the back with their back stamp.
