Antique French Art Deco Watercolor Still Life of Blue Pansies in Original Gilt Frame

Bought at a French brocante, this quietly beautiful Antique French watercolor still life from the Art Deco period features softly painted blue pansies arranged with natural movement around a small central vase. The artist’s hand is light and assured, using layered washes of indigo, cornflower blue, and soft white to capture the delicacy of the sweet pansies. As expected with an authentic antique watercolor, the paper shows areas of gentle foxing along with slight bubbling in places, visible and consistent with age. These characteristics lend warmth and originality to the piece rather than detracting from its charm. The painting is in its original gilt wood frame, which has been restored, preserving its elegant profile and period character. A very small corner loss to the glass is present and does not detract from the overall presentation when displayed. We have papered the back to preserve this lovely antique work of art.
