Antique Coalport Gold and Blue Bird Small Dish, a gorgeous design in brilliant gold and cobalt blue. Designed by Thomas Blocksidge in the 1870's this pattern is called Japanese Grove. A layered design with flying blue swallows and a bamboo grove background, the under-glaze is flow blue, and a 24 kt gilt overlay was applied on top of that.
Such a treasure! Inspired by Japanese Imari designs, which were very popular in Europe during the Regency Period and considered the height of elegant style. Marked with the Coalport mark for 1920, in wonderful antique condition. Such a luminous work of art, a perfect place to have at your bedside for your rings and Cartier watch at night, or display it on your French desk.
