19th Century French Creamware Faïence Plate Prince Joseph Poniatowski

19th Century French Faience Plate featuring Prince Joseph Poniatowski, a great hero of the Napoleonic wars.  Made by Valentin Paillart & Hippolyte Hautin, France, in the early 1820's. Plates like this were much beloved by French patriotic collectors, and even more avidly collected today.

Prince Józef Antoni Poniatowski was a Polish general, minister of war and army chief, who became a Marshal of the French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars. This plate shows him saying good bye to his family, a sweet and touching scene. The border features a floral and beribboned garland. The expected wear, with knife marks as shown. A stellar addition to your collection, perfect for a gentlemen's office or library, especially if he collects military antiques.
