Rose & Ivy Antique Flow Blue Dinner Plates Set of Six

A striking set of six antique Flow Blue dinner plates in the coveted Rose & Ivy pattern, made in 1869 by Brown, Westhead & Moore of Staffordshire, England. The deep inky blue decoration is what first draws you in. Rich and beautifully saturated, it stands out against the soft pearlware ground, creating the dramatic contrast that has made Flow Blue so beloved by collectors for generations.

Garlands of ivy accented by rosebuds wind gracefully around each plate, framed by an elegant scroll border and finished with beautifully scalloped rims. The design is both romantic and architectural, with the kind of presence that immediately elevates your table or display. Rare to find, these were created for the French Market and sold at the Grand Depot in Paris, a luxury retail shop owned by Emile Bourgeois who introduced Parisian society to fine English ceramics beginning in 1862. These plates have a fascinating history that bridges English craftsmanship and French taste.

At 9 3/4 inches in diameter, they are a wonderful size for dining, layering into a collected tablescape, or displaying in a cabinet where their remarkable color can be fully appreciated. An exceptional addition to your antique Staffordshire Flow Blue collection. Sold in a set of 6.

Collector’s Note

Brown, Westhead & Moore was a respected Staffordshire Victorian pottery, known for its quality wares and Royal Warrant production for the British royal household. This set brings together several collector favorites: early Flow Blue, a finely detailed floral pattern, elegant scalloped forms, and documented ties to the Paris retailer Emile Bourgeois. Pieces made for the French market are especially admired for their decorative refinement and period sophistication.

Finding six matching examples that have remained together for more than 150 years is increasingly rare.
