Beautiful Antique Ironstone Tureen with Wheat Lid, made by Clementson Bros., Handley, England, with hops and vines. Pictured on page 101 of the book, "White Ironstone: "A Collector's Guide," by Jean Wetherbee. These mid 1800's collectible antique whiteware pieces are getting more rare to find in this condition. This is such a charming early shape, elongated, with lovely decorative branch handles, the paneled and scalloped design of the lid is charming.
White Ironstone is increasing in popularity, this piece will be a most welcome addition or start of your collection, and you will love to use it to set your prettiest table. Inside, you can see the "stilt marks" where the bottom rested while going in the kiln, indicative Victorian pieces. There is a small chip on the rim as shown.
