Antique Spongeware Stick Spatter Plate

Antique Spongeware Stick Spatter Plate, an exceptional example of the stick spatterware technique, in which small pieces of sponge shaped into patterns were mounted onto an end of a stick and then dipped in paint. Once dipped the paint was applied to the pottery and dried to be glazed. This bowl dates to 1880, made by Petrus Regout, whose pottery company was founded in 18341 in Maastricht Holland.

The design is a delightful floral garland in vibrant colors, featuring flowers, buds and berries as well as leaves. The rich palette of cobalt blue, brick red, and green stands out against the cream-colored earthenware body. Whether you are a seasoned collector, or simply appreciate the history behind everyday objects, this plate is a captivating find. Display it on a wall, in a cabinet, or use it to add a touch of vintage character to your kitchen or dining room.
