Antique Green French Vineyard Harvesting Hod, tole painted, in an exceptional size and personality with a beautiful green aged exterior. Also called a "hotte" in the 19th century these hods were worn on the backs of grape pickers as they worked in the fields, hand harvesting the grapes. Bought in Europe, the grape hotte|basket was later hand-painted with a laurel wreath and the number 5 7 1 by an owner for decorative purposes.
These have not been used in the fields of French vineyards since the 1940’s and are now true collectors pieces. There is wear as you would expect, dents, scratches, plenty of patina. Mounts flush agains the wall, a wonderful statement for your French Country home filled with seasonal branches or floral displays, as an umbrella stand or in your wine cellar.
