19th Century Asparagus Set Gilt Aqua Plates and Platter Set, late 1880's by Villeroy & Boch. Rare size, collectible shape & color makes this a prized addition to your collection. Villeroy & Boch was founded in 1836 by Jean-François Boch and Nicolas Villeroy, in 1748, Francois Boch began in Audun-le-Tiche, Lorraine, France. Empress Maria Therese of Austria wooed the Bochs to Steptfontaines, Luxembourg, with her royal patronage. Boch was one of the most successful factories on the continent.

The serving platter has elegant decorative molded details, aqua blue, yellow and cream white colors. Hand painted and trimmed in bright Gold. Rare shape and size, most majolica asparagus cradles and serving plates feature European white asparagus, this has delicate yellow spears. A true heirloom addition to your collection, or to serve at table for a true asparagus feast. The 9 plates are an unusual shape echoing the platter. Good antique condition, there is craquelure as you would expect, one of the plates has a hairline that has been there for many decades, and does not go all the way through.
