Incredible Large Scalloped Tole Tray with Hand Painted Pansies & Lily of the Valley, such a beautiful and rare to find tray. A commanding statement piece, this large antique wooden tole tray features a dramatic black field adorned with a lush hand-painted bouquet. The bouquet is a stunner, made of mixed flowers that are all our favorites, from little purple pansies, lily of the valley sprays, cream cabbage roses, a large frilled tulip, to morning glory vines, a tiger lily, fuchsias and other garden flowers.

Painted on wood, the painting is exceptional. Every brushstroke conveys the skill and care of an accomplished artisan, making this more than a functional object — it is a collectible objet d’art. The luminous flowers stand out beautifully against the black background, evoking the elegance of 19th- to early 20th-century French toleware. Very small areas of loss to the surface, nothing detracting, there is a bit of paint missing on the very bottom of the rim as shown.

This is truly a spectacular tray for your collection. I'm confident you won't find another like this one. The scalloped edges enhance its sculptural presence, while the impressed signature “Francis Martin” on the back confirms its provenance and artisan craftsmanship.
