Antique French Bronzed Courting Couple

Antique French Courting Couple in bronzed metal, this charming couple is quite decorative, he is wearing his Sunday tunic and pants tucked into boots, she is wearing her very best dress, with a lovely embellished headband. These figures were made in the 1800's, early 1900's to resemble the much costlier bronze figurines so en vogue at the time. They are made of metal, then "cold" hand painted to resemble the warm rich patina of bronze.

They are not perfect, having been moved several times with one family from home to home, he is missing one of the garlanded swags on his ornate base, and has some wear on the paint as shown. She also has wear, an air pocket during casting caused a small opening on the back of her skirt (not uncommon in these old pieces) and at one time I believe she was holding something in her raised hand, perhaps a fan or flower, this is no longer there. Please only buy these two love birds if you adore vintage and antique pieces with the patina and wear only the grace of time can give.

  • Measure 5" base x 8-1/2"h for the girl; 9"h for the boy.
