Antique French Directoire Tôle Peinte Cache Pot with Pastoral Medallions

Made of tin and painted in the traditional tôle peinte technique, this elegant French cache pot dates to the Directoire period and reflects the restrained neoclassical taste of early 19th-century France. The form is architectural and balanced, featuring a flared square rim above a gently tapering body. Two sides are adorned with hand-painted oval medallions depicting romantic pastoral vignettes, each scene different, lending the piece both artistic merit and visual depth.

The medallions are framed by delicate foliate motifs in warm gilt tones, softly luminous against the painted ground. Decorative yet purposeful, this jardinière is as compelling empty as it is styled with greenery. Made and hand painted in France and marked on the underside, it is a refined and uncommon survivor of the Directoire era. In good age related condition, there are a few small losses to the paint. A thoughtfully preserved example of early French tôle peinte, retaining its original decoration and period character.
