Bring the romance of 18th century France into your home with this rare antique French print after Pierre Antoine Baudouin (1723–1769), a celebrated artist of the Rococo era. Known for his elegant and intimate boudoir scenes, Baudouin captured the spirit of the French aristocracy with grace and charm. This beautiful antique 18th century engraving is an original hand tinted etching and engraving made by Jean-Baptiste Blaise Simonet (1742-1817) after the painting of Pierre-Antoine Baudouin (1723-1769). It is The Bedtime of the Bride (Le coucher de la mariée) Pierre-Antoine Baudouin {1723-1769} was a French painter working in the style of his father-in-law, François Boucher. He was elected a member of the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.
This engraving was done by Jean Michel Moreau le Jeune {French, 1741–1814.} I bought this at market, it's rare to find a hand colored version of this engraving, most are monotone. The family that owned this print placed it in this beautiful antique silvered frame, as you can see by the back, at one time it was a standing frame. No longer able to stand, it has a wire hanger. It suits the print beautifully, and even though over the centuries the very bottom of this rare print was cut, it displays beautifully. Priced accordingly.
