Summer Garden Luncheon

Whether they are casual or elegant, garden gatherings in the warm summer months are a wonderful way to celebrate the season. A summer garden luncheon with a few friends to discuss the latest roses, for instance, is as good an excuse to enjoy time together as any!

As soon as the first warm days of late spring, early summer arrive, I’m planning leisurely luncheons and dinners in the garden.  Setting a lovely and thoughtfully decorated table is what encourages lingering at the table longer with friends and family to share laughter, food and make for a memorable time together.

Welcome to Monday Morning Blooms!

Today Pam, Mary and I are welcoming our friend Rita of Panoply to our floral therapy day! I will share everyone’s link at the bottom of this post so you can visit all of them and see what magical flower inspiration they’ve designed for our enjoyment today.

Summer is such a fun time to gather friends for a luncheon! I set our little garden table in the front garden today, because the star jasmine is blooming and it smells heavenly!

This is the best time to find gorgeous flowers at the grocery market, Trader Joe’s or anywhere else you buy flowers! I prepared the Limoges tureen by taping a grid on the top to help the flowers stay where they need to stay.

These garden roses had me at ruffled big petals, and their smaller cousins spray roses just hopped into my basket along with peach and white alstroemerias, and a wild filler called lepidium whose bright chartreuse color I just couldn’t resist!

Since we just unboxed a beautiful antique French Limoges luncheon set from the late 1800’s, I used it for these photos.

Outdoors is a wonderful place to use your silver, and porcelain dishes. It adds an unexpected flair to entertaining al fresco.

Arranged in a French Limoges tureen with a gold trim, these colors are breathtaking!

The menu is super simple. An arugula salad, mixed with olive oil and parmesan cheese, with halved little tomatoes, blackberries, and candied pecans is refreshing and easy to make. Little egg salad sandwiches, tea, water with lemon, and macarons.

I generally have a box of macarons and other little desserts in the freezer.

So that I can serve a treat at any moment, and frozen so I am not tempted to randomly eat them myself!

The Antique French Limoges Lady’s Luncheon Set is so pretty. Each piece has little pink florals and a laurel wreaths with blue bows. It was made by Charles Field Haviland | CDM in 1891.

These gorgeous napkins are cotton, and have soft colored flowers on a light buttercream yellow background.

The silver is a special luncheon sized set from France made by Ercuis, France, world-renowned for it’s classic luxurious silver. Because the French ‘set’ the silver upside down, French silver patterns are always as beautiful on the back as the front.

No garden luncheon could be complete without a cute basket filled with antique gardening tools, could it?

This one is one of a few French baskets that arrived in the latest shipments of our purchases from the markets. I love it’s shape!

Thank you so very much for your visit.

I love our special Mondays together, sharing the beauty and our love of flowers!

Dear Lidy, That floral arrangement is absolutely stunning! Colors, flowers choices and composition-magnifique!!

    1. Thanks so much for your visit and sweet comment, Ruthie! The flowers really deserve all the credit, don’t they? They are so lovely!

  2. Good morning, Lidy. What a joy it would be to sit in your front garden for a summer luncheon and enjoy the fragrance of the star jasmine. Your arrangement of ruffled coral roses mixed with peachy-colored spray roses, alstromeria, and lepidium is stunning. The French Limoges tureen with gold trim is the perfect vessel to show off the roses. The antique Limoges luncheon set with little pink florals, laurel wreath with blue bows is beautiful. Of course, the luncheon sized silver is quite lovely. I also keep macarons in the freezer so I won’t be tempted and they are perfect to pop out for a tea party or luncheon. The arugula salad looks refreshing for a midday meal served alfresco. I love the French basket filled with antique gardening tools. It adds a touch of rustic to a glam table!

Wow! I’m a crazy person when it comes to roses and your arrangement is tops in my opinion. The ruffles, the colors, the container, the garden basket, the silver and the jasmine. All brought together for our enjoyment. Now if I had smell-a-vision.

      1. Alice, I know, I wish I could scent the screens with the smell of that little jasmine. My office is just next to it, and with the windows open it smells heavenly inside! Thank you for your visit, dear, wishing you a happy June! xo

The vintage china is elegant and really elevates this lunch to a special occasion. Love the basket with the antique gardening tools and the pretty floral napkins. This has been such a lovely way to start my day, and yes I want to run to Trader Joe’s and buy flowers!

    1. Happy June, Jenna! Thank you for your sweet visit today, wishing you could visit in real life, not just virtually. But it’s a pleasure just the same. xo

  6. Oh my, Lidy, this is so elegantly set, yet so comfortably approachable in your garden! I wish for a scratch and sniff for this post so I can smell the jasmine and roses! Those roses! Their color is my absolute favorite, breathtaking is exactly the right word them. And, like you, I find those ruffles irresistible.
Always setting a gorgeously French tablescape, I love coming to your blog for that authentic inspiration. The beautiful dishes used as every day being special, the flatware as it’s set, the simplicity of the menu, and even the garden basket of tools – all so French. So beautiful.
It was a pleasure to be invited to share Monday Morning Blooms among you ladies today. Thank you!

    1. Rita, thank you so much for joining us today! To see I am slightly envious of the gorgeous fluffy peonies you can grow in your garden is an understatement. The flower arrangement you made today for Monday Morning Blooms is so beautiful! Wishing you a very happy June, friend! xo

  7. Lidy, I think using silver and fine china in the garden is the perfect touch. Elegant and very special! Your flowers are gorgeous, and like you, Trader Joe’s is my go to source. The peonies have arrived this week. I’ve bought bouquets twice so I could deliver to friends. I love popping by a friend’s with a bouquet of fresh peonies. Of course the French basket filled with antique tools makes me smile. I keep my few in a wood garden box. Some of mine have seen way too many house of hard work in a garden, but I like to think of the hands that once used these tools. My own mother is one! Thanks for all this beauty to start my day. Happy first Monday in June!

    1. Dear Sarah, it’s always a delight to have you visit, friend! Oh, the peonies….for half a second I almost passed up these roses but the peonies will be here for a few months, and the roses maybe not! I love how sweet you are to share your love of peonies with friends, you are a dear one. Wishing you a happy June! xo

  8. Lidy, I visited you early this morning, made a comment and *poof* it went! I was out the door to walk the dogs and run some errands so I’m back to visit and drool over your flowers and try to comment again. Those roses knock my sock off…so many ruffles and petals and such a glorious color too! The whole arrangement in the tureen is stunning as is your Limoges Lady’s Luncheon Set! Your wonderful French basket with assortment of vintage garden tools speak to my gardener’s heart! I would so love to join at your table by the star jasmine…I know the fragrance is wonderful! As always, it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy, Happy June!🌸💗

Oh Lidy, what an exquisite arrangement of roses, plus. The china, silverware and
linens complete the setting to perfection. That is some wonderful basket find. Such
elegance is conducive to feeling pampered, even outdoors….

Lidy, your floral arrangement is just breathtaking! And that gorgeous antique tureen is so elegant. You have styled such a delightful and beautiful table, your food looks very inviting also. Your garden setting is perfect. I am admiring how healthy your confederate jasmine looks. Having just been in Provence and seeing their healthy vines I immediately remembered them along the store fronts.

I always enjoy your beautiful graphic art creations. I love Isaiah 61:11 and it will be pinned. A tutorial on how to make them would be welcome.
The china and silver are also breathtaking and so special. A five star post as usual! Bonnie

    1. Bonnie, thanks so much, friend. Our jasmine is having a really ‘good’ year, the leaves are so glossy and healthy. It looked like you had a fantastic trip! I lived vicariously along with you. Wishing you a very happy
      June! xo
