Flower market in France

Whether you have a green thumb or simply love the beauty of flowers, you’ll love walking through all the alleys of this charming market in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la Cité. Founded in 1808, the market was rebuilt in the 1920s after being leveled to build the Cité metro station.

It’s original name was Marché aux Fleurs et aux Oiseaux Cité {Flower and Bird Market}, but it was renamed Marché aux fleurs Reine-Elizabeth-II when Queen Elizabeth II visited Paris in 2014 for the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The flower market is a gem, and it’s one of the favorite places local Parisians love to go for a stroll.  With both covered and open-air areas, the market has beautiful cast iron pavilions covered with glass roofs to let in light.

Lidy the pictures take my breath away. I can only imagine how I’d feel being there among the flowers and birds. Making a choice to bring home to enjoy would be hard.

Such beauty! It smells divine, I’m certain… How would you ever control your choices of which plants and bouquets to take home!? Notice the plurals? – 😉
