Creating a professional floral arrangement at home
is easy, once you know a few of these tricks!
I created this guide to go along with our new French Flower Arranging Kit,
which has superior florist quality tools inside
to help you create the most beautifulÂ
floral arrangements at home!
These tips work every single time and will have you arranging flowers like a pro!
1. SELECT PERFECT FLOWERS.
Buy the freshest flowers you can find. A secret to know if roses are fresh is to gently squeeze the heads, they should be firm. Start simple with one color or analogous colors. You can make the arrangement look unique by incorporating a variation of shapes and textures.
2. USE THE 1/3 – 2/3 RULE TO CHOOSE A VASE.
Your vase should be one third the size of the arrangement {1/3 vase, 2/3 arrangement} and should compliment the look you are going for in some way. If you have a lazy susan, put your vase on top of it for being able to check your arrangement at every angle while arranging!
3. PROFESSIONAL SECRET.
Insert your wire mesh into a vase for stability and prevent stems from falling over. Or opt for the clear grid tape, either one will help you create a professional looking arrangement.
4. CLEAN FIRST.
Strip each and every flower of all the leaves that will be below the water line. And clean up each flower by removing any old or dying leaves. This will channel nutrients to the flowers, and keep your arrangement looking fresher longer. Â For roses, use your thorn stripper to strip off every thing below the water level.
5. START LONG.
Start arranging by placing the longest stems in the vase first, then add shorter greenery along the line of the vase. This will establish the foundation and shape of your arrangment.
6. GO TO THE RIM.
Place the larger and heavier flowers closer to the rim of the vase. It will create a natural focal point, and keeps your shape from drooping – the vase will support the weight of the larger flowers.
7. USE ODD NUMBERS.Â
Odd numbers {3,5,7 etc} always look better.
8. BE UNEXPECTED.
Give your arrangement a little pop by adding something you wouldn’t normally see, a few twigs from your garden, a clipping of greenery, or a few snips of herbs!
9. HAVE JOY!
You have created the foundation of your arrangement with the longest stems and heavier flowers, now fill in with the other flowers or filler.
Twirl your vase around on your lazy susan and tweak it a little until you love it!
If you follow these tips, you can create magical flowers for your own home.
