Adorable miniature French Market Basket found in the Provence, such a charming country design. Baskets like this were used to take to the daily round of shopping in the village, this little one is "just like maman's". Going to market each day, to do the daily meal shopping was a tradition in France, in many towns it still is. These baskets would be just big enough to hold the milk, eggs, butter, vegetables and meat, perhaps a bottle of wine, the sturdy handle was held tightly under the arm. This basket is masterfully woven by hand, with a sturdy splint bottom.
Display this with your collection of antique baskets, a magical display piece to use with your antique French and German porcelain dolls and bears. There is wear to the handle, the wrapping is loose and a few bits missing, on the outer frame as well, these were used by children and the fact that this little gem survived is a rare miracle in itself! Perfect for display, please only purchase this petit treasure if you don't mind the grace of time. Measures 11-3/4" x 7~1/2" x 5-1/4" h x 9" to top of handle.
