Sold as souvenirs long ago, these two petit dolls are made of celluloid, they wear quite elaborate Holiday Red costumes befitting their royal station. Marie, her beautiful blond hair piled high with tendrils on the side, has glittering red jewels in her coiffeur, and two sparkling earrings. Her gown? A splendid confection in red, with frothy white French laces, gold metallic ribbon trim, touched with black velvet bows that echo her black velvet choker. Divine!
Louis XVI is resplendent in his red velvet cut away jacket lined in white, with lace cuffs and jabot, trimmed in French gold bullion ribbons. He wears white breeches, buckeled shoes, and a fancy floral vest. On his beautiful blond curls, the classic French tricorn hat. A gorgeous couple! These dolls were not too dear when they were originallly sold, however these two were most likely at the top of the price range due to their extensive clothing. In good vintage condition, well loved and cared for by a collector, no doubt.
The King measures 7-3/4"h, his Queen 7" when standing with her skirt out. Her delicate feet do not touch the ground, stuffing tissue paper in her gown will help her stand and display her gown at its best. Her legs are a little wobbly, but she's not really meant to stand on them, her stiff underskirt is supposed to support her. You may want to gently pin or steam parts of her gown, I have not dared to. A lovely addition to your doll collection, and wonderful to display during the holiday season.
