Antique book, Nearer My God to Thee, a 19th century Christian Hymn by Sarah Flower Adams, based loosely on Genesis 28:11-19. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it..."

This song was allegedly the last song the band on the Titanic played just before the ship sank. This little book was published in 1878, with designs by Miss L.B. Humphrey, engraved by John Andrew & Son. The illustrator, Lizbeth Bullock Humphrey, illustrated a number of popular books, including children's poetry, and the first American edition of Tennyson's 'The Song of the Brook.' She also won Louis Prang prizes for her Christmas card designs.

The cover is a little bit of a mess, it has discoloration, bumped corners and lightening, {it does have gilt edges!} but it has done a great job keeping its contents safe. Beautiful engravings in black and white with some color added, at least 12 of these. A special addition to your Victorian books, display with your collection with pride. Measures 7-1/2" x6-1/4" unpaginated.
