Exceptional reliquary, hand made in a convent with such precision, care and amazing workmanship in the 1800's. Pieces like this are so rare to find in this condition. Hand painted watercolor depicts St. Johannes, St. John the Apostle. The painting is surrounded by decorative gilt paper quill work, and metal Scrollwork embellishment of astounding museum quality. There are red paste stones, small mirrors and pearl beads worked into this heartfelt creation. This type of work was specific to the 19th century, and made in monasteries and convents, each surviving example is a precious piece of Christian religious art and devotional history of the period.
The flowers surrounding that frame were painstakingly made by hand of minuscule pieces of gilded woven metal wire, divine. This fabulous devotional shrine is encased in the original wood shadow box with the wood backing, it has the original blown glass front. There is loss of decorative corners as shown, this is a one-of-a-kind devotional work of historic art.
