An exceptional painted portrait of the Virgin Mary, painted on a porcelain oval plaque set in metal, is the focal point of this House Altar. Finely executed by a master painter, this is such a lovely piece, an especially decorative addition to your collection of devotional and religious antiques. The Holy Mother is shown wearing a a white gown which attests to her purity, draped with a golden shawl, she carries a midnight blue cape over one shoulder. There is an incised mark on the back of the piece, however I have not been able to decipher it. 19th century, "Heiligen Maria" is written on the back in green pencil.
The stand is a marvel, beautifully hand carved of wood with elegant rococo leaves and acorns adorning the frame. Painted in gold, it is a wonderful way to display the plaque. At one time one of the legs was reglued, the stand is sturdy. An exceptional piece, sure to bring beauty and grace to your home, the small size makes this easy to fit in anywhere. The Madonna plaque measures: 3~5/8" x 3~1/16, the stand:10~1/4" x 6".
