Bocage Covered Floral Urn

Beautiful Bocage Covered Floral Urn, most likely made in Italy in the earlier part of the 1900's. Made of a creamware with a slight pinkish tint, with exquisite floral garlands and embellishments called bocage. Urns like this with ornate floral garlands and embellishments were used as centerpieces, two were displayed on a mantel. This particular urn has colorful three dimensional flowers cascading down the sides.

The lid has more beautiful flowers, but was made for another urn like this, so it is a marriage, it's a different color and doesn't quite sit well on the top. The marriage was most likely made when the collector this came from bought the urn without a lid, and then found a lid that appears to be made for a similar urn. I've decided to include the lid, since I bought it together with the urn. Use it as it, or use the lid as a presse papier on your French desk.  They both have delicate, elegant style, reflecting the artistry of ceramic craftsmanship. Not perfect, there are some losses to the tips of the flowers, but this is truly a beauty!
