Rare Antique Ironstone Two Compartment Bowl with Metal Lid, made in 1863 by Ott & Brewer of Trenton. Bowls of this size with their original lid are almost impossible to find, I’ve never seen one outside of a museum. Large, heavy, the two compartments make this a very unusual design. The fitted hand hammered metal lids {I think they are tin} have been cleaned and are a dark almost pewter-like color, they close well. There is a mark on the bottom with the Royal Warrant for England, although this was produced in the USA.
The bowl has been used, there is staining inside after more than a century of most likely daily use, and it has an old repair and a chip as shown. These do not show when the lid is closed. We have chosen to leave this as is, it’s part of this beautiful and so exceptionally rare to find bowl. What a stellar addition to your collection!
